Demetrius Smith, LGSW
Hi, I’m Demetrius. I earned my Master’s of Social Work from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and I am licensed to practice in New Jersey and Washington, DC. I work with individuals from a wide range of marginalized communities, including people who have experienced homelessness, incarceration, substance or alcohol misuse, and those living with HIV. I also support members of the LGBTQIA+ community, young adults ages 17 and older, and individuals navigating life stressors, major transitions, or moments when they simply need someone to talk to.
My approach to therapy is collaborative, engaging, and practical. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you better understand your emotions, identify what matters most to you, and take meaningful steps toward change. Clients often describe our sessions as thoughtful, motivating, and sometimes even fun, while still addressing real challenges in a grounded and honest way.
I believe therapy should feel supportive, thought-provoking, and tailored to you. My goal is for you to leave each session feeling heard, understood, and equipped with new perspectives that support growth and hope for the future. If you’re looking for a therapist who will meet you where you are and work alongside you toward positive change, I would be honored to support you.
